IWR presents study on the "State of the renewable energy industry in North Rhine-Westphalia"

Münster, 23 November, 2005 (iwr-pressedienst) - On Tuesday, North-Rhine Westphalia’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Christa Thoben, and IWR Head Dr. Norbert Allnoch presented a study on the “State of the renewable energy industry in North Rhine-Westphalia” at a federal state press conference held in North Rhine-Westphalia’s state parliament.

The 100-page study offers a comprehensive overview of the renewable energy industry in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). The study, unique in kind, not only shows the contribution made by renewable energy sources in the three core sectors of electricity, heat and fuel, but also provides information on the turnover of companies within the industry and the number of jobs that have been created. "Public debate on renewable energy sources has often been limited to the electricity sector and climate protection. This study has also enabled us to highlight the industrial opportunities that emanate from manufacturing renewable power system technologies,” said Dr. Norbert Allnoch.

Based on this study, IWR will carry out an evaluation for North Rhine-Westphalia on its role as a region for manufacturing and producing renewable energy technologies as well as on how its research activities compare internationally. The intention is to systematically assess the commercial opportunities for renewable energy technologies from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
