Sustainable E-Mobility needs Power from Renewable Energies!

Darmstadt (renewablepress) - To implement the ambitious goal outlined in the Paris Agreement to keep the increase in global average temperature below 2?°C, significant changes in the transport sector are required: Greenhouse emissions in the transport sector need to decrease substantially, which calls for an increase in the share of E-Mobility solutions in the transportation sector. This raises new questions: How will the charging infrastructure need to develop? What is the impact of a larger share of EVs on the grid? Does large-scale E-Mobility really have a positive influence on climate change?

E-Mobility can only be considered a sustainable climate protection measure if vehicles are charged with power from renewable energies. Otherwise, emissions are only shifted to the location of the generation plants. The electricity used to recharge the batteries must be generated from renewable sources such as wind, solar or hydroelectric energy for Plug-in Electric Vehicles to have almost none or zero well-to-wheel emissions. New questions and challenges arise regarding the grid integration of a larger share of fluctuating power supply from renewable energies.

These crucial topics will be addressed by experts on E-Mobility and RE at the Berlin Workshop Week from 23 – 27 October 2017 that offers three highlight conferences in one week: the renowned 7th Solar and 16th Wind Integration Workshops as well as the new E-Mobility Power System Integration Symposium that focuses on grid integration of electric mobility.

About 500 participants from power system operators, transmission and distribution grid operators, wind turbine, solar inverter and charging station manufacturers, universities and research institutes, and consulting companies will convene for the Berlin Workshop Week. The primary objective is to stimulate interdisciplinary thinking between industry and research by providing a platform for sharing ideas and knowledge in the field of large-scale integration of RE.

With a total of 8 E-Mobility, 14 Solar and 26 Wind sessions the spectrum of topics ranges from grid integration studies and experiences to grid codes, modelling, and questions of forecasting. The program offers special sessions like the IEA session "Recommended Practices for Wind/PV Integration" or the ENTSO-E session "System Challenges & Solutions to Move Towards 100% RES Penetration".

The Wind Integration Workshop covers all aspects relevant to large-scale integration of wind power into power systems. One highlight is the session on the Black Out in Australia that is being discussed for the first time in detail in Europe: www.windintegrationworkshop.org

Topics of the Solar Workshop include grid integration studies, storage integration, frequency and forecasting issues: www.solarintegrationworkshop.org

The focus of the E-Mobility Integration Symposium will be on grid integration, charging infrastructure and storage issues: www.mobilityintegrationsymposium.org

All three conferences can be booked individually or in combination, which is highly valued and often done by participants. Beside the regular sessions the workshop week is filled with accompanying events such as a Wind Tutorial on “Ancillary Services and Wind Power Plants”, Poster Receptions and a Dinner – great opportunities for networking!
