Deutsche WindGuard calibrates LIDAR and SODAR - DAkkS-Calibration for Remote Sensing Devices

Varel - As the first company worldwide Deutsche WindGuard Consulting is now accredited by the German accreditation body DAkkS for the calibration of remote wind sensing devices of all brands and makings. Wind measurements with remote sensing devices have increased in the last few years. \"To date there was no traceable method to calibrate the sensors,\" says Axel Albers, Managing Director of Deutsche WindGuard Consulting and head of the calibration laboratory, \"Using calibrated sensors is a requirement to gain the banks’ acceptance for LIDAR and SODAR based wind measurements. Power performance measurements and wind resource measurement with LIDARs and SODARs are also only accepted if the sensors are calibrated.\"

All sensors are calibrated at the LIDAR-Test Field of Deutsche WindGuard in Georgsfeld in the north of Germany. A 135m met mast serves as a reference source. The mast is equipped with twelve cup anemometers, seven wind vanes, three 3D ultrasonic anemometers and various other sensors. Along with the calibration the remote sensing sensors can be classified on the test field.

Deutsche WindGuard Consulting GmbH is accredited by Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH (DAkkS) as a testing laboratory according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 for Measurement of Wind Turbine Power Curves; Wind Measurements at Sites and Potential Sites of Wind Turbines; Site Specific Energy Yield Evaluations for Wind Farms; Site Suitability Studies; Determination of Noise Immission; Determination of Shadow Immission; Noise Emission Measurement and Noise Immission Measurement, as well as Load Measurement on Wind Turbines.
