Potential for a more efficient use of biogenic waste

Munich - One third of the biogenic waste in Germany remains. This is true although the novel of the renewable energy law, effective since 2012, offers attractive buyback prices for generating electricity from biological waste: biogas plants using commodities that consist at least of 90% organic waste or market-, garden- or park-waste receive at least 14 Cent per kilowatt hour.

The recently published pilot study 2011 dealing with the energy transition of the German Federal Government attaches notably importance to energy production from biogenic waste: According to this half of the sustainable usable biomass energy in Germany results from recycled waste material. About 40% hereof is yet currently unused.

How communities and local energy suppliers could use this potential prospectively is theme of the conference GeoBioEnergy 2012 - held within the framework of the fair IFAT ENTSORGA from 9 - 10 May 2012 in Munich. The energetic recycling of biogenic waste is central topic on May, 10th– first on production and use of biogas, then later in the afternoon on the utilization of leftover and waste wood. Definitely the participants await practical experience: For example, Dr. Bernhard Thiersch from the company RES Projects will report on different types of system concepts able to ferment organic waste, while Michael Buchheit from Sius will share from his years of operational experience with Germany\'s largest fermentation facility for organic waste in Passau. In the area of wood utilisation the focus will be not only on operational experience with heating plants using wood, but also especially on the challenges of wood gasification. Here Christian Aichernig from Repotec in Vienna will report on the biogas facilities utilizing wood in Güssing and Ulm. Please note: The participation is free of charge.
