Renewable energy stock index so far loses over 40 percent in 2011

Muenster - The downward trend in stocks of companies from the renewable energy industry, a trend which has persisted for almost three years, still continues. The industry’s global stock barometer, the RENIXX World, fell below the 320 point mark, meaning it has lost more than 40 percent since the beginning of 2011, reported the IWR, a renewable energy institute, in Muenster. \"The nuclear reactor accident in Fukushima in March merely resulted in a brief surge, after which the market resumed its decline,\" said IWR Director Dr. Norbert Allnoch in Muenster. The RENIXX World has already lost 80 percent since its all-time high of 1,918.7 points in 2007.

Shares in Chinese wind and solar companies in particular have come under pressure, some falling more than 70 percent. Nor were the three German companies listed on the RENIXX – centrotherm photovoltaics, Nordex und SolarWorld – able to escape the negative trend.
