Renewable energies: RENIXX World reaches a 5-year low

Muenster - The worldwide stock index for renewable energies, RENIXX World, has fallen to its lowest level since July 2005. Losses from solar shares, in particular, have in the mean time forced the renewable stock market barometer down to below 515 points, announced the IWR, a renewable energy institute, in Münster. Since the beginning of 2010 alone, RENIXX World has lost over 30 per cent. At the end of 2007 the index was still quoting over 1,900 points.

\"The market environment for the renewable energy industry is currently difficult\", said IWR director Dr. Norbert Allnoch. The worldwide economic and financial crisis is having a delayed action on this industry. Moreover, the present low oil price and the economic problems of individual countries are now damping the national political commitment to renewable energies and climatic protection, according to Allnoch.
