Renewable energy in Asia shows off massive growth potentials

Bangkok - Asia, particularly the Southeast Asian region, is expected to attract massive investment into the renewable energy sector now that clear laws and policies are in effect.

Thailand has already approved its Renewable Energy Plan to raise renewable energy usage share from the current 6.4 percent to 14.1 per cent in 2022, while the alternative-energy ratio would be raised from 7.3 percent to 20.3 percent in the same period.

The Philippines Renewable Energy Act is geared up to generate $10 billion in fresh capital from renewable energy development projects over the next 10 years.

Malaysia is finalizing its National Renewable Energy Policy and Action Plan reportedly aimed at having 5 percent of power to be sourced from renewable sources by the year 2050, excluding figures generated by hydro-electric plants.

Indonesia’s Presidential Decree No.5 /2006 states its new and renewable energy use will rise to 17 percent of total energy consumption by 2025 (5% biofuel, 5% geothermal power, biomass, nuclear, hydro, and wind, and also liquefied coal at 2%).

Other countries are in the process of enacting their relevant aggressive alternative energy policies.

To tap on this growth market, the sixth edition of Renewable Energy Asia exhibition and conference from 2-5 June 2010, organized by UBM Asia (Thailand), has invested much of its resources in match-making events and conferences to facilitate deals among potential investors, partner and exhibiting technology suppliers.

Renewable Energy Asia is held in conjunction with Entech Pollutec Asia, an environmental technology exhibition, and Pumps & Valves Asia.
