juwi awarded contract for one of Italy's largest photovoltaic plants - Bid accepted for solar system on the roofs of the great market halls of Verona

Woerrstadt/Verona - The juwi group has received the order for the construction of one of Italy's largest photovoltaic (PV) plants. The German company will design, build and then operate a rooftop system with an output of 1.7 megawatts (MW) for the great market halls in Verona. Covering a surface area of 16,000 square meters, juwi will install some 22,200 of the latest thin-film modules from First Solar. The juwi group is one of the leading project developers in the field of renewable energies and this contract will strengthen its international activities in the solar sector.

The company will have a 20-year lease agreement with the hall operator, Veronamercato for the use of the market hall roof. The plant will produce 1.8 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity per year. Based on 3,500 kWh as the average annual consumption for an Italian family, this production corresponds to the electricity demand of 522 families. The CO2 savings will be about 915 tons per year. This collaboration between juwi and Veronamercato stands as an example of a successful partnership with communities with suitable ground or rooftop spaces. The technical expertise at juwi and the will to implement concrete installations make this project a compelling reference for the partners.

"Starting with this project, we want to build up our working relationship with industry companies and energy suppliers in completing turnkey rooftop installations or free field power plants, also and especially in Italy," says Matthias Willenbacher, founder and CEO of the juwi group. The plant in Verona is an important project for continuing to gain ground in the region.
