SYNLIFT with new scope of business: Wind powered industrial processes

Berlin - High energy prices pose a challenge in particular for operators of energy-intensive industrial processes. Since the last amendment of the German Renewable Energy Sources Act has come into force in January 2009, using wind energy is becoming an economically attractive option for those operators. Low-cost and steady energy prices may be achieved by getting the electricity directly from wind turbines within a subgrid (own consumption) or by buying it from wind farms via the public national grid (direct selling). The amendment of the Act allows flexibility between periods of feeding the electricity to the grid on the one side and using it on the other side.

Taking into account these developments, the German company SYNLIFT Systems GmbH has established a new business domain: wind powered industrial processes. Focusing on energy-intensive industries, the company analyses process flows, and based on that elaborates and realises concepts for an optimized integration of wind energy into the process.

In order to guarantee a high wind energy penetration measures of load and storage management are integrated into the overall process management. A project currently being worked on for a medium-sized casting house in the German province Brandenburg provides an example for the company activities in that field.

For these activities SYNLIFT benefits from its experience in the field of wind powered seawater desalination. With SYNWATER® the company developed its own system solution which is particularly of interest in the Mediterranean, on the Arabian Peninsula and in Australia.

In addition to its other activities SYNLIFT also organises seminars. Those aim at informing experts from the field of metal production & metal working on the variety of technical options of wind powered electrothermal processes as well as on legal aspects and economic potentials. Scientific support for the events which will take place in march and april 2009 will be provided by the Institute for Electrothermal Process Technology at the Leibnitz University of Hanover.
