How to capitalize on geothermal energy

Freiburg - Investor’s interest in geothermal technology is finally catching on and the number of those recognizing the huge geothermal potential to be tapped is ever increasing. Some recent developments seem to have triggered this new interest. Early 2007, a comprehensive report by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), heralding the enormous potential of Enhanced Geothermal Systems clearly invigorated the market. At the same time, Icelandic companies like Glitnir Bank or Geysir Green Energy, combining know-how and capital, seized the international market in a concerted effort. Google’s recent US$10 million investment announcement sent out another strong signal to those who are still hesitating. Yet, while market confidence is growing, geothermal projects are still faced with many challenges. Knowledge and experience are an absolute requirement for any geothermal project. That applies not only to the developer but also to financial institutions and investors.
