IWR welcomes active strategy by German Federal Minister for the Environment, Sigmar Gabriel, for ecologically-oriented industrial policies

Münster - In Berlin, the German Federal Minister for the Environment, Sigmar Gabriel, has spoken out in favor of an ecologically-oriented industrial policy that will place Germany and Europe in a better position in the global economy. In a memorandum, Mr. Gabriel is calling for a “New Deal” between the economic, environmental and employment sectors.

The International Economic Platform for Renewable Energies (IWR) in Münster is welcoming this initiative as a pioneering milestone. “Industrial developments in the renewable energy industry in Germany have been determined by chance rather than anything else recently and over the decades. Until now a political strategy with regard to the economy and industry has not been perceptible, but in view of the globalized economy and competition for production sites it is more important than ever” said IWR Director, Dr. Norbert Allnoch. To achieve this there has to be better coordination between programs set up for the use of renewable energies and the industry which develops and manufactures renewable energy systems. Above all, the renewable energy sector, which is mainly made up of medium-sized companies, needs an integrated political strategy for the environment and industry based on a domestic framework which is reliable in the long term, said Allnoch.
