Wind year 2005 in Germany: Ups and downs during first half-year of 2005

Muenster (iwr-pressedienst) – In the first six months of 2005, the electricity generation from wind was above the 10-year mean (1995-2004) in coastal areas and below it in inland areas. The Internationale Wirtschaftsforum Regenerative Energien (International Economic Platform for Renewable Energies – IWR) in Münster has announced that by the end of June 2005, the IWR wind yield index showed a plus of 4.9 per cent for coastal areas and a minus of 6.4 per cent for the northwest German inland compared to the 10-year mean. "The construction of additional turbines means we’re expecting for 2005 an increase in wind-generated electricity in Germany of around 30 billion kilowatt hours," says IWR Managing Director Dr. Norbert Allnoch. Thus wind power’s share of the gross electricity consumption (600 billion kilowatt hours) increases to 5 per cent. Together with hydroelectric power, bioenergy and photovoltaics, the IWR is expecting renewable electricity generation in 2005 to increase for the first time to around 60 billion kilowatt hours (around 10 per cent of the gross electricity consumption).
