© VSB GroupPfaffenhausen/Dresden (renewablepress) - Construction of the Pfaffenhausen wind farm in the municipality of Jossgrund, located in the Main-Kinzig district of Hesse, is expected to begin at the end of 2026. Project developer VSB has received approval from the Darmstadt Regional Council to build the wind farm with a total capacity of 36 megawatts (MW).
Through close cooperation with the municipality of Jossgrund and private landowners, the Pfaffenhausen wind farm project progressed quickly, resulting in approval for five Vestas V172 turbines, each with a capacity of 7.2 MW. Once operational, the wind farm will generate enough green electricity each year to supply around 34,000 households.
After commissioning, the wind farm will provide the municipality of Jossgrund with a long-term source of regional value creation and additional funding for local initiatives. Under Section 6 of Germany’s Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), VSB will provide the host municipality with 0.2 euro cents for every kilowatt-hour of wind power generated. The calculation also includes all municipalities whose territories lie within a 2.5-kilometer radius of the turbines. In this way, the wind farm will not only contribute to supplying tens of thousands of people with clean energy, but also support sustainable development and strengthen the region’s future prospects.
Construction of the five wind turbines is scheduled to begin at the end of 2026, subject to the project receiving a successful bid in the Federal Network Agency’s onshore wind energy tender.
“Hesse has made significant progress in recent years in expanding wind energy and accelerating approval procedures. This helps us present new projects in municipalities and engage with local communities in a constructive and cooperative way. At VSB, we stand for trust, participation, and local value creation,” says Thomas Winkler, Managing Director of VSB Germany.
Dr. Felix Grolman, CEO of the VSB Group, adds: “The Pfaffenhausen wind farm exemplifies our commitment to implementing energy transition projects with foresight and responsibility. Every new turbine not only brings us closer to a climate-neutral energy future but also strengthens energy security in Germany and across Europe.”
Current VSB Construction Projects in Hesse
Since 1996, VSB has been developing wind farms, photovoltaic parks, and battery storage projects across Germany and Europe. In 2013, the company commissioned its first wind farm in Hesse (Ruhlkirchen) and subsequently opened a regional office in Kassel. VSB is currently planning and coordinating several projects in the region, including the expansion of the Vockenrod wind farm in the Vogelsberg district and the repowering of the Rülfenrod wind farm. Preparations for construction of the Wirmighausen wind farm in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district are also set to begin later this year.

The future of our energy supply is in renewables. This has been VSB Group’s guiding principle since 1996. And it’s been successful, too. From its head office in Dresden, the consultancy has become an international provider of wind energy and photovoltaic solutions. VSB adds value throughout the entire project life cycle, from securing land through approval planning and implementation to operations. We also offer our clients and investors a full range of specialized services and operate as a general contractor. We aim to provide quality, optimal project management, high-value components and excellent partners.
VSB implements environmentally-friendly projects, reducing CO2 emissions by several thousand tonnes. With our partners, we help municipal councils and mayors to develop and implement energy- and climate-driven concepts. Our common goal is to create a reliable energy supply, use energy consciously and efficiently and at low cost. This enables us to involve citizens comprehensively at an early stage, build acceptance and develop individual participation models.
Over 350 employees in Germany, Europe and around the world are engaged to make our vision of 100 percent energy generation from renewables a reality. For example, we have already succeeded in connecting roughly more than 700 wind energy and photovoltaic plants to the grid. Many other projects are currently in development with cooperation partners, municipalities, citizens and investors.
