REpower resolves upon joint venture for in-house rotor blade production

- Consortium with Abeking & Rasmussen
- Location of new blade factory will be Bremerhaven

Hamburg - The Supervisory Board of REpower Systems AG (WKN 617703) has approved the foundation of a joint venture between REpower and the rotor blade manufacturer Abeking & Rasmussen (A&R). The joint venture is to produce rotor blades developed by REpower. REpower and A&R have stakes of 51% and 49% respectively in the joint venture. The location of the approx. 16,000 sqm blade factory is to be in Bremerhaven - close to the planned production hall for the REpower 5M offshore wind energy turbines.

Prof. Dr. Fritz Vahrenholt, CEO of REpower Systems AG: "With Abeking & Rasmussen, we have found a partner with many years of experience and excellent knowhow in the production of rotor blades. As a result of the joint venture, it will be possible for us to further optimise the output of our wind turbines through the sophisticated design and constant technological advancement of the blades."

He adds: "The excellent support from the economic development of the city of Bremerhaven and the senate of Bremen must be emphasised. Through the rotor blade production and the assembly hall for our 5M nacelles, several hundred jobs can be created here in the next few years."

Independent from the rotor blade production in Bremerhaven, the planning for a rotor blade production facility in Portugal continues.
