India is booming. International symposium "New Energy Markets 2006", 6-8 November, Science Park Gelsenkirchen, Germany

India is booming. With annual growth rates close to 10%, India is predicted to become the third largest economy in the world within the next two or three decades - outstripped only by the United States and China. Managing both the rapid economic growth in metropolitan areas and the electrification of unserved rural areas requires massive investment in energy generation and distribution. According to IEA (International Energy Agency) figures, cumulated investment will mount up to more than 700 billion US-$ until 2030. As part of this programme, the Indian government plans to expand electricity generation capacity by 100.000 MW between 2008 and 2012. Under the heading "Power for all Indian households" 140.000 unserved villages are planned to be electrified until 2012. Due to the remoteness of many villages, large parts of this programme will be based on distributed generation using renewable energy sources like biomass, solar and wind energy.

Which are the opportunities for the European clean energy sector arising from this scenario? Which modes of cooperation and which strategies for market entry have been proven succeccsful - which are most suitable for small and medium enterprises?

These and other questions will be addressed at the International Symposium "New Energy Markets 2006 - Focus on Inda" From 6-8 November at Science Park Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Programme and Registration: http://www.wipage.de/energy

The technological focus of the conference is on solar energy, energy from biomass and advanced power plant technologies. In all sessions, speakers from India and Germany will provide latest information on available technologies, market development and business opportunities. To facilitate technology cooperation on a business to business level, two pre-organized brokerage events will be part of the conference scheme. Companies are invited to present their technology and service profiles on the conference web site and the exhibition area. How advanced renewable energy and power plant technology works in practice can be experienced at the site visits after the conference.

The conference is part-financed by the German State of North-Rhine Westphalia (NRW) and the European Union. It is supported by:

- Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC)
- Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI)
- The Energy Resources Institute(TERI), New Delhi
- German Renewable Energy Industry Federation (BEE)
- German Solar Energy Association (BSW)
- German Asia-Pacific Business Assocation (OAV)
- State Initiative on Future Energies NRW
- Competence Network on Advanced Power Plant Technologies NRW

We would be happy to welcome you to this important energy event at Science Park Gelsenkirchen.
