Major order from Schleswig-Holstein

- Phönix SonnenStrom AG awarded a contract for a photo-voltaic megawatt power plant using thin film modules from First Solar

- Start of construction today, Monday

Sulzemoos, 17 October 2005 / Phönix SonnenStrom AG (ISIN DE000A0BVU93), a leading company in the design and construction of large photovoltaic power plants, continues to expand its cutting-edge technology in large-scale PV plant construction with thin film modules. Today, Monday, construction work will start on a photovoltaic plant with a peak power output of 1.04 megawatts in Reußenköge located in the district of Nordfriesland in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The company was given the order as the general contractor of GP Solarpark I GmbH & Co KG. The plant, with an investment volume of around EUR 4.5 million, will be built using thin film modules from First Solar.

In June 2005, Phönix SonnenStrom AG signed a long-term framework agreement with the American module manufacturer First Solar, thereby adding another thin film module to its product range. The modules which First Solar supplies are used especially in the construction of large-scale PV plants and are known for an efficiency of up to 9 percent, which is high for thin film modules. Along with a performance guarantee of more than 25 years, First Solar is the first company in the sector which has introduced a fully fledged concept for taking back and recycling its solar modules.

Phönix SonnenStrom AG's project engineers have estimated that the installation of more than 17,000 solar modules will take 40 working days. The plant is due to start feeding into the grid at the beginning of December. Investors anticipate that an average of 950,000 kWh solar power per year will be generated.
