Varel (renewablepress) - Deutsche WindGuard’s technical management division in Varel has reached a major growth milestone: For the first time, its 24/7 control centre is monitoring renewable energy assets with a combined capacity of more than one gigawatt across Germany and the Netherlands. This development underlines the importance of professional technical management for the safe, secure and efficient operation of wind energy, solar photovoltaic, hybrid and energy storage systems.

The operation of renewable energy assets is becoming increasingly complex. Today, operators face the challenge of ensuring commercially viable operations while meeting a wide range of regulatory and organisational requirements as well as requirements relating to occupational health and safety and IT security. As a result, technical management is increasingly evolving from a pure monitoring function into the central hub for the safe, secure and cost-effective operation of renewable energy assets.

“This is precisely where Deutsche WindGuard comes in: Our aim is to ease operators’ day-to-day workload as much as possible. With short response times, clearly defined processes and sound technical decisions, we ensure high effective asset availability and optimum performance, thereby providing a crucial foundation for profitable energy production,” explains Nicolas Kluth, Head of Technical Management. “Our 24/7 control centre forms the operational core of this approach. It enables us to detect faults in real time, initiate corrective action immediately and minimise downtime.”

“Transparency and personal support are equally important elements of our comprehensive service model for independent technical management, shaped by more than 25 years of experience. Every customer benefits from a dedicated contact who combines technical expertise with an in-depth understanding of the individual asset and its specific characteristics. This enables us to coordinate measures efficiently, reliably fulfil operators’ obligations, and professionally manage communication among all stakeholders – from service partners and direct marketers to grid operators,” explains Dr Dennis Kruse, Managing Director of Deutsche WindGuard. “A key component is WONDER, our proprietary wind farm management system. It brings together operational data, documentation and workflows on a central platform, creating a transparent basis for informed decision-making in technical management.”

As early as 2022, Deutsche WindGuard was one of the first providers of technical management services for wind farms to demonstrate to the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) that its 24/7 control centre meets the IT security requirements applicable to operators of critical infrastructures (KRITIS) under Section 8a of the BSI Act (BSIG). “Since then, we have been continuously enhancing our IT security standards through ongoing process optimisation, regular audits and recurring evidence of compliance – in future in accordance with Section 39 of the BSI Act,” adds Tobias Künne, Head of Government, Compliance & Risk. “This gives our customers lasting confidence in our technical management services, which are safe, secure, resilient and fit for the future.”
