Kenersys, Juwi and ATS complete further showcase projects

100% renewable energy communities possible also in low wind speed regions

Kenersys, Juwi and ATS complete further showcase projects

Münster/Wörrstadt - Onshore wind energy is the most important pillar of the energy turnaround. Especially in the mid and south of Germany the potential is still unexploited. But with the latest wind turbine generation with large rotor diameter and a great hub height the potential can be exploited economically. The wind turbine manufacturer Kenersys, the project developer Juwi and the tower manufacturer ATS demonstrate this impressively with their youngest project in the communities of Schornsheim and Winterborn (Rhineland-Palatinate).

\"The essential benefit of onshore wind energy is the fast setting-up and the high technical availability. In this project we succeeded again, the turbines have an availability of almost 100% right from the start\", so Andreas von Bobart, CEO of the turbine manufacturer Kenersys.

The projects \"Schornsheim\" and \"Winterborn\" comprise of six turbines of the type Kenersys K100 2.5MW with a hub height of 135 meter. The turbines generate 36 million kilowatt hours per year and supply about 12.000 households with clean energy.

\"It’s clear: At higher hub heights you can expect stronger and steadier winds. In combination with a large rotor diameter there is a higher Annual Energy Yield and a higher capacity factor as well. So, wind energy will be the essential brick of 100% renewable energy also for communities in low wind speed regions\", according to Matthias Willenbacher, board member of Juwi.

The 135 meter hub height is reached with the ATS hybrid tower, a patented solution with standardised concrete segments and a conventional steel pipe tower at the upper part. The construction consists of long, slim tower segments in combination with standardised angle elements. In contrast to conventional tower segments, the ATS tower segments can be transported on normal trucks without excess width. Hence for delivery no special transport is necessary. This significantly contributes to a faster erection and commissioning of the wind turbines.

At both projects the colour of the ATS towers is outstanding: \"We can colour the lower part of the turbine tower according to the wishes of the respective communities.\", says Matthias Willenbacher, \"This helps to raise the acceptance for wind energy\".
