First Worldwide Continuing Studies Programme Offshore Wind Energy Starting in October 2012
Oldenburg/Bremerhaven, Germany - The application period for the \"Continuing Studies Programme Offshore Wind Energy\" has started in February 2012. The application deadline is June 30, 2012, and interested persons should submit their application documents to ForWind – Center for Wind Energy Research at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg. The first worldwide study programme of this nature on academic level is scheduled to begin its first round with 24 participants in October 2012.
This part-time study programme is oriented towards engineers and managers engaged in the offshore wind industry as well as in the maritime branches. Its objective is to give insight into the technical and engineering aspects of offshore wind energy projects, and to teach the management of these projects, their risks, and interfaces. The participants will obtain the expertise to analyze and practically implement the complex interaction within offshore wind energy projects.
On an academic level, there is a current lack of advanced and continuing studies that proficiently cover the demand of engineers and managers in the offshore wind industry. ForWind, the Wind Energy Agency WAB and the City of Oldenburg face this demand with the \"Continuing Studies Programme Offshore Wind Energy\". The project partners have been successfully cooperating for more than five years offering the unique \"Continuing Studies Programme Wind Energy Technology and Management\" focused mainly on onshore wind energy. \"Therefore, it was obvious to the organizers that a similarly designed continuing studies programme should also be offered for offshore wind energy\", says Dr. Stephan Barth, Managing Director at ForWind.
The contents of the \"Continuing Studies Programme Offshore Wind Energy\" are imparted in a flexible and practical manner, as they cover all areas from wind farm design over project development and installation, right up to service and operation. Within a mix of learning methods self-study phases are accompanied by classroom instruction phases that take place in Bremerhaven and Oldenburg, and during which, the future offshore experts have the opportunity of closely networking with one another. Intensive project work emphasizes the study programme’s practical approach. Upon completion after nine months, the graduates of the internationally oriented and English-speaking study programme will receive a graded university certificate of the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg.
