juwi Sells Solar Park to Plain Energy

The photovoltaic power plants Hostovice and Trebovice provide clean solar energy for 2,000 four-person households in the Czech Republic.

Prague / Wörrstadt - Good to have the sun! This is what 8,000 Czechs feel now that their energy needs are met with clean solar energy produced directly at their front door. Thus, they avoid more than 4,000 tons of the climatedamaging greenhouse gas CO2 per year. After the solar park has successfully been commissioned and been in operation for ten months, it has now been sold to the power producer Plain Energy.

The juwi group, located in Wörrstadt in Rhine-Hesse, planned the high-tech power plant. Although the Czech Republic hesitates to support renewable energies, Jochen Magerfleisch, COO of the specialist for renewable energies, is still convinced of the Republic’s potential in this respect: "Solar power is the central element of a comprehensive supply with renewable energies. Without the construction of further freefield PV plants, Europe will not be able to reach the so much needed power supply based on renewable energies."

Constantin Schwab, managing director of Plain Energy GmbH, considers the purchase of the power plants as an important step towards pan-European diversification. According to him, a long-term engagement in renewable energies, especially in times of insecure markets, guarantees reliable returns to investors.

64,000 First Solar thin-film modules with a nominal capacity of 4,800 kilowatts peak (kWp) were installed at the sites Hostovice I + II approximately 130 kilometers east of Prague. Since December 10 2010, the plant feeds electricity into the Czech grid. The future yield will be about 5.4 million kilowatt hours (kWh).

In Trebovice 13,300 modules with a capacity of 997.5 kWp were installed. The plant was commissioned on December 22 2010 and is supposed to produce more than one million kWh clean solar energy within one year.
