First LIDAR Wind Measurement completed in High Alpine Terrain

Winterthur - During two months in summer 2009 New Energy Scout carried out a LIDAR measurement campaign on Flüela pass in Grisons (Switzerland). It is the first wind measurement using LIDAR technology in Switzerland in such complex alpine terrain (2380m) by New Energy Scout. In spite of periodical snowfall there was only minor data loss thanks to the heated enclosure. The measurement was carried out on behalf of the local utility. Due to the successful accomplishment more measurements are planned with our own LIDAR utility at other sites in 2010.

In December 2009 New Energy Scout installed an 80m measuring tower for one year of measurement at the same mountain pass.


About LIDAR

LIDAR stands for LIght Detecting And Ranging and is a contactless three-dimensional capture of the wind. It can be measured at any height between 10 and 200m. Advantages are the flexible fields of application with few demands of the site, the quick installation and the fact, that for its use no construction permission is needed.
