M+W Zander hands over solar module factory to Q-Cells subsidiary Solibro

- Timely handover despite three-week winter break

Stuttgart - On July 30, 2009, on schedule the international engineering company M+W Zander handed over a new solar module factory to Q-Cells subsidiary Solibro. On the occasion of the final acceptance at the Thalheim factory (Saxony-Anhalt, Germany), Solibro CEO Dr. Johannes Segner said: \"We are very satisfied with M+W Zander’s performance.\" The engineering company was the general contractor for the planning and construction of the factory.

Despite an unplanned three-week winter break, M+W Zander was able to deliver both on budget and on schedule. In January 2009 temperatures as low as minus 29 degrees Celsius put a halt to all concrete-pouring activities. In the course of the project M+W Zander was able to make up for the time lost.

The new factory has an annual nominal capacity of 90 megawatts. The factory’s production floor area of around 15,000 square metres – about the surface area of two football pitches – will be put to use to manufacture thin-film solar modules based on CIGS technology (short for copper indium gallium selenide). This technology is characterized by especially high potential operating efficiencies. Solibro already produces modules with more than 12 percent efficiency.
