Juwi to purchase up to 35 Kenersys wind turbines - Project developer and wind turbine manufacturer seal supply deal

Wörrstadt/Münster - German clean energy developer the juwi group, based in Wörrstadt, has struck a deal with Kenersys Europe to buy wind turbines for its projects. Kenersys is the European subsidiary of Indian company Kalyani Group. The two partners signed their agreement at juwi’s headquarter in Wörrstadt, in the western German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Under the agreement, Kenersys Europe will supply juwi with up to 35 K 100 wind turbine generators (WTGs) with 2.5-megawatt rated power and 100 meter rotor diameter over the next three years. Juwi is one of Germany’s leading wind, solar and bioenergy project developers. “We’re always on the lookout for suppliers of reliable wind energy converters because the amount of projects we’re involved in is continuously growing,” says Dr. Marie-Luise Pörtner, juwi’s head of the purchasing department in the wind sector. “Kenersys’ turbine design and its extensive development and production expertise convinced us.” The framework contract is valued at more than 100 million euros.

Kenersys will produce the WTGs for juwi starting in 2009 in the north German port town Wismar on the Baltic Sea, in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Juwi is Kenersys’ first client in Germany. “This cooperation paves the way forward for us into the German marketplace. The demand is big enough for quality suppliers like Kenersys to gain the necessary leverage,” says Dr. Andreas Reuter, managing director of Kenersys Europe. Dr. Reuter is one of the most recognized design and construction engineers for WTGs and heads Kenersys Europe GmbH from its base in Muenster in the Westphalia region of Germany. Dr. Pörtner adds, “The Kenersys turbines open up new prospects for us with their combination of very good cost-performance ratio and high quality”.

Juwi intends to install the Kenersys WTGs in Germany and other European countries. It will use them in two variations: with 100- meter steel towers and 133-meter hybrid towers developed by the dutch company Advanced Tower Systems (ATS). ATS hybrid towers consist of narrow pre-cast concrete components in the lower segment, topped by conventional steel elements in the upper segment. They enable high hub heights and in turn produce more energy at comparatively low overall cost.
