Nordex obtains further major orders from Turkey

- Bilgin Enerji orders up to 210 MW for West Turkey

Hamburg - Nordex AG has scored points again in Turkey: Power station operator Bilgin Enerji, Ankara, plans to install wind farms with up to 210 MW in the West of Turkey in the coming two years. Nordex is to supply the turbines from its proven N90 range with a nominal output of 2,500 kW each. The agreement with Bilgin Enerji entails a master agreement as well as a delivery contract which has already been secured in all points.

The firm delivery contract is for the "Mazi III" wind farm, which will be installed near the town of Cesme, to the West of Izmir. For this, Bilgin has ordered nine turbines from the N90 series from Nordex for delivery by June 2009. At 8.4 m/s the average wind speeds at the site promise an optimal yield: in the future, "Mazi III" will be able to supply more than 11,000 households a year with clean electricity. This means that around 45,000 tons of toxic greenhouse gases can be avoided annually.

The master agreement contains an obligation to supply 36 turbines for the "Aliaga" project as well as two options. Nordex is to supply 36 turbines for the "Aliaga" project, the first 18 next year, with the remainder following in 2010. The intended location is two kilometres to the South of the "Yuntdag" wind farm, which Nordex recently put on grid for Dost Enerji. The order from Dost, placed one year ago, marked the turbine manufacturer’s successful entry into the Turkish market.

In addition to this, the master agreement contains an option for 36 turbines for the "Soma" project, with delivery scheduled for 2010. The second option is for three additional turbines for the "Mazi III" wind farm.

A new customer, a firm order and wide-ranging master agreements – for Carsten Pedersen, COO Sales and Marketing at Nordex AG, a positive result after one year’s presence in Turkey: "Thanks the cutting-edge technology of our N90 we have rapidly become a force to be reckoned with. So we have perfect starting conditions on the Turkish wind energy market, which holds massive growth potential. And in Bilgin we have gained a customer with a large number of projects in the pipeline."

Nordex - a profile

As a technological leader among suppliers of megawatt turbines, Nordex benefits particularly from the global trend towards large-scale wind turbines. The product range includes one of the largest series wind power systems in the world (N80/N90/N100 2,500 kW) and today some 650 of these turbines are in operation worldwide. This means that Nordex has a crucial edge in terms of experience in operating large turbines compared to most of its competitors in the sector. Overall, Nordex has around 3,300 machines with a capacity of more than 4,000 MW installed worldwide (May 2008). With exports accounting for over 90 percent of its business, Nordex AG plays a key role in international high-growth regions. The Company has offices and subsidiaries in 18 countries around the world. In total, the Group employs about 1,850 people worldwide.

Bilgin Enerji - a profile

Active in the energy sector since 1990, Bilgin Enerji sets the benchmark in and is a pioneer of hydro and wind power in Turkey, having built and operating the first hydro power plant as well as the first and, what at the time was the largest wind power plant in the privatized energy market in Turkey. With a portfolio of wind projects with a capacity of 400MW and hydro power projects with a further capacity of 400MW in operation and under construction, Bilgin Energy expects to be able to contribute more to the national energy pool via its renewable sources in the near future.
