Sulzemoos, 13 September 2006 / Phönix SonnenStrom AG (ISIN DE000A0BVU93), a market leader for photovoltaic system integration operating throughout Europe, has acquired contracts for three more large-scale solar power plants worth around EUR 21 million in total. The company is thus expanding its leading role in the construction of solar power plants.

As early as 2005, Phönix SonnenStrom AG had already been commissioned to build a 5.3 megawatt power plant in Miegersbach near Munich in the context of a solar fund launched by KG Allgemeine Leasing (KGAL). KGAL has now initiated a new solar fund entailing a follow-up project which comprises the building and turn-key construction of a 2.1 megawatt greenfield solar power plant in Buchheim close to Würzburg. Phönix SonnenStrom AG is also currently at an advanced stage of completing a project for the same fund. This project is a ground-mounted solar power plant with a peak power output of 2.2 megawatts situated in Althegnenberg in the district of Fürstenfeldbruck. Work on the plant is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2006. First Solar's thin-film modules are being used for both plants.

Along with the 2.1 megawatt plant of KGAL, Phönix SonnenStrom AG is in the process of building a solar power plant with a peak power output of 1.7 megawatts on the Buchheim site for a solar fund initiated by mainfrankenSolar. Information on the signing of the contract was released on 11 May 2006. Both Buchheim plants together make up the world's largest thin-film solar power plant with a peak power output totalling 3.8 megawatts. The completion date for both plants has been set for the fourth quarter of 2006.

The third, newly acquired contract is for a solar park, also initiated by mainfrankenSolar, in Gosheim near Donauwörth. This 1.1 megawatt solar power plant is to be equipped with First Solar thin-film modules as well and is planned to be handed over in November 2006.

Phönix SonnenStrom AG is Europe's market leader in the construction of large-scale solar power plants. As early as 2003, the company began to use thin-film modules which are advantageous because of their high yield combined with lower system costs. This year the company plans to generate more than a third of its module sales with thin-film modules.

The use of this technology and the consistent lowering of system costs will enable the company to continue to build high-yield and efficient greenfield solar power plants in the future, despite the annual reduction of 6.5 percent in payment rates for PV-generated electricity for such plants in Germany.
