Another major contract for Ph

Sulzemoos, 3 November 2005 / Having already closed a contract in mid-October for the construction of a green field photovoltaic plant using First Solar's thin film modules, Phönix SonnenStrom AG received another order last week from mfs mainfrankenSolar 4 GmbH & Co. KG, a company based in Veitshoechheim, Germany, for a major plant with this module type. This serves to underscore the leading position of Phönix SonnenStrom AG (ISIN DE000A0BVU93) in the planning and construction of ground-mounted photovoltaic plants using thin film technology.

Due to the tight schedule - the plant is to be completed by the end of the year ready to feed into the grid - construction work on the green field plant has already begun. The solar electricity system is to be built in Burgbernheim in the District of Buchheim near Wuerzburg on a surface area of around 40,000 square metres. The solar electricity plant will generate a peak power output of 1.02 megawatts with around 16,968 solar modules. The total investment volume comes to approximately EUR 4.5 million.

The advantages of thin film modules lies in the way they are manufactured which conserves resources and is cost-effective. Given a high amount of radiation and the ensuing hot temperatures, they generate a higher yield than crystalline modules, thus making a substantial contribution to boosting the annual energy yield.

The Buchheim green field plant will fully comply with the criteria laid down by the Naturschutzbund Deutschland e.V. (NABU is a German association for the conservation of nature) and the Unternehmensvereinigung Solarindustrie e.V. (UVS) for green field sites which are compatible with nature.
