Solar wholesaler AET sets up subsidiary in Italy

Sulzbach near Saarbrücken, 17 October 2005. The leading European solar wholesaler AET GmbH now also has its own subsidiary close to its Italian customers. The new subsidiary in Vicenza (Venetia) is headed by Giuseppe Sofia (45), a manager experienced in Italian solar sales business. AET thus continues its international expansion into promising solar markets. “With our varied product ranges for solar electricity, heating and cooling, the Italian market offers huge growth potentials not just because of its geographic and climactic conditions. Thanks to recent solar subsidies, we expect a sharp increase similar to Germany and Spain“ explained Friedemann Holzwarth, general manager at AET GmbH. “I believe that similar subsidies will be introduced in Greece this year, where we have been represented since last year.“

AET expects solar boom in Italy

Given the recently adopted new energy law for solar electricity, Italy promises to become one of Europe’s most important growth markets. The Italian government has recently passed a law (“conto energia“) similar to the German renewable energy law ‘Einspeisegesetz’, which guarantees fixed purchasing prices for electricity produced from regenerative energies. According to this law, plant operators in Italy will be paid up to 60 cents per kilowatt-hour for their environmentally-friendly solar electricity. The new Italian energy law provides that, following the German example, plant operators will be guaranteed this price for another 20 years. The Italian government’s long-term goal is to install PV systems totalling 300 MWp in their country by 2015. According to a recent report (Praxisreport Solarmarkt Italien, practice report solar market Italy) issued by German energy agency dena, there will be a major growth spurt on the Italian photovoltaics market.
