© Swisspower Renewables AGZug (renewablepress) - Swisspower Renewables AG has appointed André Cruz as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). In this role, he will be responsible for the operational management and further development of the company’s European portfolio of wind, hydro and, increasingly, photovoltaic plants. The facilities operated by Swisspower Renewables currently produce more than 700 GWh of renewable electricity per year, making an important contribution to an efficient energy transition.

“With André Cruz, we are gaining a COO who knows the full spectrum of our business from first-hand experience – from project development through construction and operations to power marketing,” says Lars Hieke, CEO of Swisspower Renewables AG. “His proven expertise in wind, solar and storage systems across Europe is an excellent fit with our strategy, which combines profitability, efficient plant operations and growth from our own project development.”

André Cruz has many years of leadership experience in the renewable energy sector. Most recently, as Windenergy COO at MET Group, he was responsible for the development, construction and operation of wind power and battery storage projects. Prior to that, he worked for Smartenergy as Senior Manager Investments and, for several years, held various management positions at Elektrizitätswerke des Kantons Zürich (EKZ), including Head of Solar Business and Asset Manager Renewable Energies.

Cruz is a qualified mechanical engineer (ETH Zurich) with a focus on energy sciences and also holds a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) in Accounting & Finance from HWZ Zurich. This combination gives him both solid technical expertise and strong financial and management skills – key factors for further expanding the portfolio as well as for developing new service-based business models.
