All Supply Contracts for Butendiek Offshore Wind Farm secured - wpd submits four major works for signature at the same time

Bremen - Breakthrough for Butendiek offshore wind farm: After intense negotiations throughout the summer wpd group, located in Bremen, was able to wrap up the final and complete contracts for all four major works of the 288 MW project. In particular, Siemens received a delivery contract for 80 turbines of the 3.6 MW class as well as a service contract. Simultaneously, the foundations by Dutch manufacturer Ballast Nedam, the substation platform by Belgian supplier Fabricom GDF Suez JV and the internal park cabling by Visser Smit Marine Contractor, located in the Netherlands, were contractually secured for the 1.2 billion Euro Butendiek project in the German North Sea.

“Last fall, we took over the Butendiek project, a venerable project, which at that time was regrettably stranded. After a new start through wpd, it is now one of the most interesting offshore projects in Germany. The low-risk profile of the project is supplemented by a set of agreements with especially seasoned and successful companies like Siemens and Ballas Nedam, with whom wpd has already built another offshore wind farm,” explains Achim Berge, managing director of wpd offshore GmbH. The acquisition of the project in the fall of 2010 was followed by negotiations on the design, production, delivery and installation of the four major works’ components.

“In record time, with highly professional and very experienced teams, all parties involved have taken a fantastic step in the direction of a successful implementation. We are already looking forward to working on our next goal – financial close,” says Martin Lehnhoff, managing director of wpd offshore solutions GmbH, who with his team was responsible for the implementation of the project.
