TÜV NORD receives DAkkS accreditation for wind energy project reports

Hamburg - As from now, TÜV NORD is able to issue accredited expert reports for wind energy projects. Due to recognition by the German accreditation body Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle (DAkkS) the reports form an important basis for the financing of new wind farm projects.

\"Investors in new wind farms have to know the probable energy yield as precisely as possible – it is the only way that payment for electricity and therefore economic viability can be estimated\", says Verena Schneider, Head of the TÜV NORD wind energy test laboratory. \"That is why German and ever more international banks require an assessment by an accredited body before granting loans for wind farm projects and wind turbines. An accredited expert report is also a prerequisite for payments in accordance with the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).\"

The task of the expert report is to determine the wind potential at a wind turbine location, to determine the energy yield of individual wind turbines or entire wind farms and also to provide the proof of 60% reference yield required by the Act. Payment can only be claimed for electricity produced as from 60% of this specified reference yield.

DAkkS has confirmed that TÜV NORD creates expert wind energy reports in accordance with the current technical guidelines and that it assures the compliance of its own processes by means of a quality management system in accordance with DIN EN ICO/IEC 17025:2005.

The performance of individual wind turbines or entire wind farms very much depends on the conditions at the individual location. Some important factors are, for example, if the site is mountainous or lies on the coast, the wind strengths that occur, the size of the wind turbines and whether they affect each other due to turbulence.
