juwi Solar Creates 500 New Jobs World-Wide
- Project developer grows in all important markets and enters into new countries
Valencia/Woerrstadt - juwi Solar continues to extend its international business activities with rapid strides. \"We enter into new markets and are creating 500 new jobs until 2012 world-wide\", says juwi Solar managing director Lars Falck prior to the European photovoltaics conference EU PVSEC in Valencia (September 6th to 10th) The subsidiary of the German juwi group in Woerrstadt (Rhineland-Palatinate) is presenting its services and product range at the accompanying exhibition at the stand L2/H3/C9. For the two years to come juwi is working on photovoltaic plants for both smaller and bigger roofs and free-field with a total output of more than 1.000 megawatts (MW). With these projects more than a billion kilowatt hours clean energy can be produced per year, which covers the need of more than 300.000 households - or a megacity - according to European norms. Important foreign markets are the USA, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Greece and Spain; Germany also remains in focus. This year juwi is entering the market in Bulgaria and Slovakia. Moreover, juwi is planning to establish additional foreign branches within the next months, amongst others in Great Britain and in India. Furthermore, the market segments \"Operation and Maintenance\" and \"Off-Grid\" are further expanded.
In Bulgaria the project developer has already started a first project in the sunny southwest of the country. The free-field photovoltaic plant in Drachevo - approx. 30 kilometres southwest of the port Burgas - has an output of 3.5 MW, produces per year approximately 4.3 million kilowatt-hours clean energy and will be put to the grid in autumn at the latest. In Slovakia projects with an output of five MW are planned for this year.
\"As general contractor we can offer the construction of turn-key plants to registered holders in practically every country. We are checking a number of countries at present regarding the launch of an own project development and the establishment of further branch offices\", said Falck. juwi is one of the most important companies in the area of operational maintenance. \"With an output of more than 300 MW and well over 50 employees we also offer our services for plants that were not constructed by our company\", added Falck. Off-Grid is expanding as well. In the past two years juwi received orders from the most remote corners of the world. Numerous new jobs will be created in this division - both in Germany and abroad.
Germany remains currently the most important market for the company. Approximately half of all new jobs will be created in Germany - despite the hard cuts in the promotion of solar energy. Falck: \"The excessive shortenings are costing us millions of Euros in revenue. However, juwi is innovative and flexible enough to be able to react to political decisions that are neither soundly justified, nor comprehensible – such as the complete removal of arable land from all promotion. We work full speed on further innovative concepts such as solar carports or photovoltaic plants on greenhouses\". Included in juwi’s portfolio are also solar parks on open spaces, which were formerly used for military or industrial purposes.
The US has developed into the second most important market. The team with managing director Michael Martin is planning projects with a total output of approx. 150 MW up to 2012; the number of employees is going to be doubled from approximately 30 at present. The United States has developed into the second most important market. The team with managing director Michael Martin is planning projects with a total output of approx. 150 MW up to 2012; the number of employees is going to be doubled from approximately 30 at present. Already within the course of this summer solar Inc. is planning to connect to the grid a 12 MW plant in Wyandot County (Ohio) as well as a 15-MW project in Jacksonville (Florida). By the end of the year a solar facility in San Antonio, Texas (16 MW) will be completed. \"juwi solar has built or is currently constructing three of the largest solar PV power plants in the United States. The utility-scale solar market in North America is beginning to thrive, and our goal in the near future is to continue to position ourselves as one of the leading developers, EPC contractors and operators in this market\", says Michael Martin.
Although the growth of the Spanish solar market is due to the imponderability of the energy policy in Spain noticeably slowed down, juwi is still active on the Iberian Peninsula. Projects in development are located predominantly in Andalusia and the Comunidad Valenciana. At the moment juwi plans projects with a total output of 30 megawatt. In France, where juwi Solar is realizing among others a free-field project in Sabaranis (8.5 MW), located approx. 80 km south of Toulouse, the company will install photovoltaic plants with a total output of 30 MW only in 2010 and double the number of employees to more than 50 – tendency rising \"In France the hard work bears fruit. Besides European investors one of our customers is a national energy utility\", says Yannick Bauer, Managing Director of juwi Solar France.
juwi is also expanding in Italy. Only in this year projects with a total output of 20 MW are projected - among others a solar carport for the roofing of a nursing homes’ parking lots located in Marcaria, approximately 70 kilometres southwest of Verona in the province Mantova. The number of currently more than 40 employees is to be considerably increased.
In Greece and the Czech Republic juwi is up to a lot of things as well. \"Prospects are promising, basic conditions are good; we will grow strongly in these countries\", says Lars Falck. In Greece the company counts this year on a market share of 10 per cent. In the Czech Republic, where a 2 MW plant is currently realized in central Bohemia, juwi is planning projects with a total output of about 15 MW and is one of the leading players; the number of employees is to be almost doubled to 34.

The juwi group (www.juwi.com) was established as a specialist for regional combined cycle power plants with which municipalities and regions, industries and businesses can cover their energy demands in a clean, efficient and tailored way from renewable resources. A central element of this 100 per cent concept is photovoltaic. In Valencia juwi is presenting its entire range of services and products. \"We offer full service for roof and free-field plants firsthand. Whether it is acquisition, planning, financing, realization or operational management, we take care of every step of project development\" says Lars Falck, managing director of the juwi Solar GmbH. Beyond that juwi has innovative solar developments on board and is moreover presenting its already broad range of photovoltaic plants for roofs. The latter include innovative solutions for almost every kind of roof.
The juwi group is a leading project developer for renewable energy installations and was established in 1996 by Matthias Willenbacher and Fred Jung. Together they developed juwi from a two-man office to a company acting world-wide with more than 900 employees and a sales volume of 900 million euro (outlook 2010), which realizes solar, wind and bio energy plants as well as water power and geothermic projects.
