Construction Work of Open-Field Solar Power Plant in Marchal commences

Volkach-Dimbach - Assyce Fotovoltaica. S.L. is constructing a 2000kWp open-field solar power plant in the township of Marchal (Granada/Spain). More than 200 guests of honour, ranging from political and industrial representatives to the investors were invited to the official begin of work on 20 Oct 2006.

Twenty 100kWp–power plants will be mounted on a plot measuring 10 hectares. They will generate 3,200,200 kWh of electricity from the sun every year – enough to cover the annual needs of 1000 households. The Co2 savings will equal those of a 650 hectare wood.

The solar power plant was designed by the Andalusian Company ASSYCE Fotovoltaica S.L., the construction work was assigned to Beck Energy GmbH.
Beck Energy had convinced with their state-of-the-art system technology and supplier Blitzstrom´s CTS panels produced by First Solar.

This is the initial deployment of CTS Thinfilm Technology in Spain. Due to the high temperatures in Spain the CTS panel´s low temperature coefficient constitutes a major advantage compared to silicone modules. Additionally, all panels are subjected to First Solar´s Take-Back and Recycling Program: the manufacturer guarantees that the modules are recycled at the end of their lifetime – at least 25 years of efficient electricity generation.

In his speech at the festivities, Maire Juan Manuel García Segura emphasized that this project constitutes another important step in the Andalusian policy to deploy renewable energies. It will bring substantial support to the community, as land is leased for the project.
The local government officer urged the use of 20% of the income to promote tourism and set up premises for senor citizens and youths.

Bernhard Beck, CEO of Beck Energy GmbH underlined the excellent cooperation with ASSYCE Fotovoltaica S.L. and the cordial reception of German workers in Marchal.

ASSYCE –CEO Luís M. Garrido Mateo stated his confidence in meeting the company target of building 10% of Spain´s PV installations by 2010. By then 15 open field Solar Power Plants totalling a power of 40 Megawatts will be generating electricity. As ASSYCE points out, this will have considerable positive effects on the environment.
Currently the project has established 15 direct and 20 indirect jobs in Spain.
